Hey everybody!
Laura here. It's been quite some time since my website has been updated and I don't want you all to think I've fallen off the face of the earth, so I'll take a moment to quickly tell you what I have been up to and what my plans are for the 2010 race season.
At the end of '09, I had an opportunity to test with Red Horse Racing and Toyota at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Virginia. My first experience in a Camping World Truck was one of the coolest and most memorable experiences of my racing career. I tested alongside Indy Car driver, Vitor Miera, and F1 pilot, Nelson Piquet Jr., so you could say that I had some competition, and obviously, I was a bit nervous. At the end of the day, I finally got my chance to get behind the wheel after watching the Brazilians make hundreds of laps. As it was almost time for the track to close for the day, I only got about 30 laps to get used to the truck and show what I could do. To what I think may have been a surprise to some of those present, I was just as fast, and at some places on the track faster than Miera and Piquet. To say the least, it was an awesome day and once again, I have to thank RHR team owner Tom DeLoach, Laerte Zatta of Toyota, Charles Maier of Maier Motorsports and Pacific Mobile for making the test possible.
At the end of October I attended the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Combine. To make a long story short, I didn't make the cut. It was a disappointment at the time, but I've moved on and believe that everything happens for a reason. I also want to thank everyone at D4D for the opportunity to be a part of the program last year. I wouldn't be where I am today without the experience that they were able to present me. I wish the new D4D team and program the best of luck in 2010.
On a personal note, I have moved from Virginia to the Charlotte area in North Carolina, and now have a job at the Richard Petty Driving Experience as a driver/instructor. I'm very excited about working with them and getting to drive on some of the bigger Cup tracks!
Also, this past weekend during the Bud Shootout, the new NASCAR Home Tracks commercial aired for the first time. It was shot at the historic South Boston Speedway and during the commercial, I got my one second of fame! It was weird seeing myself on television, but it is pretty neat! Check it out if you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agSwZfYftqI
As far as racing in the 2010 season, I'm still working on a few things. If all goes as planned, it could be very exciting. Hopefully I will have some news soon, so stay tuned for updates!
Lastly, I want to again thank a few people for making my whole career possible. There are so many people who have impacted my career and life that it would just take too long to list, but you know who you are and I thank you. But very quickly, I must mention Rob Miller of Peoplefinders.com who has kept me racing for the past few years; I can't thank him enough for what he has done. And a huge thank you to my mom and dad and the rest of my family, who have always been there with help and support through the good and the bad. And my fans - you guys are the best - thank you so much for your support through the years!
Thank you, Laura
