02 August 2008 Roseville, Ca. All American Speedway was back in action this weekend in Roseville Ca! With six races remaining, Laura Hayes finds herself just outside of the top 5 in the points chase, when only a handful of races ago, she was outside of the top 10. With consistent top 5 finishes, Hayes continues to improve in the standings.
On Saturday, Laura was in the top 5 in practice and qualified 3rd, with a time of 13.97secs. She started outside front row in the dash and fell in line, getting a feel of the chassis setup and finished 2nd.
In the main, the invert was 4, putting her in the 2nd starting position again. From the first laps, Laura could tell the car was tightening up and it was downhill from there. Laura held 2nd place for some 8 laps and 3rd place for some 17 more, fighting from the outside groove side-by-side with the eventual winner for a number of laps. On lap 25, she fell to 4th, but never giving up, she stayed glued to Gary Glenn, the current state Whelen series points leader's tale until the end.
"We just never hit the right setup all day long. I think the track finally started to pick up rubber after the enduro race a couple of weeks back and that contributed to the car's tight handling. We were a little off tonight but we also got another top 5 finish, so I'll take it."
With 14 late model races under her belt, Laura is now up to 8 top 5 finishes, 12 top 10s, a feature win, 7 trophy dash races, a trophy dash win and a fast time. An impressive record already, in her rookie season!
