"Holding On" Describes Laura's Runs at Altamont and Salt Lake City

Saturday, August 18, 2007

18 Aug & 01 Sep, 2007, Altamont, Ca and Salt Lake City, Ut Two races on different tracks, in different locals, provided similar experiences and results. Handling issues with the car continued to plague Laura and her team. Help in the form of setups from other teams and "telephone tuning" from Larry Triguerio during the events provided no relief from the constant oversteer characteristic of the car. The bright side of the racing continues to be Laura's learning to control an out-of-control car at speed and her never give up attitude. An additional highlight was the post Salt Lake decision by the team to purchase a new chassis to close out the season.

Altamont on the 18th, saw Laura qualify 13th, narrowly miss a victory in the heat and finish seventh, almost nipping 6th place at the flag; all the time in a car that was sideways down the from the center of the turn, most of the way down the chute.

Salt Lake City on September 1st, saw Laura qualify a dismal 16th, but have to start the main in 21st after failing to take the green in her heat due to a loose fuel line connection. She held on and moved up to 15th at the flag, taking advantage of problems of her competitors, and again, by never giving up. Numerous times Laura appeared to totally lose the back end of the car, but always managed to catch it and continue at speed.

While the decision had been made to purchase a new chassis on the trip home from Salt Lake, a decision was also made to test with Larry Triquerio at Altamont, the following Friday to see if any improvements could be obtained.
